Support Programs

Most support groups are on Zoom. However, some support groups are starting in-person sessions. Check the calendar and program details below.

You need to register for a group or session.  Some groups run each month. Other groups are only offered a few times a year.

Group support calendar
Affirmation workshop

This is an in-person workshop at BC Cancer - Surrey.

Create your own powerful affirmations and learn to reframe your negative thoughts and beliefs. Affirmations can help you to motivate yourself, encourage positive changes in your life, or boost your self-esteem.

Sessions are the last Thursday of the month, 2:00 - 4:00pm

Art Studio Group

This group is offered at various times throughout the year.  The focus of each groups is different.

Brain Tumour (malignant) Support Group
For people living with a malignant brain tumour and their caregivers. This session is run by a counsellor and nurse practitioner. 

Held on the first Wednesday of each month (not statutory holidays) from 9:30  to 11:00 am.

Chinese Support Group

This group is facilitated by professional counsellors. The Group provides people with cancer and their caregivers a safe space to connect, share their experience and feelings in coping with their cancer. Chinese-speaking cancer patients and their families living in BC are welcome.

Sessions are offered in Cantonese and Mandarin. Please find below more information and the registration links.

In-person Chinese Support Group on April 24th, 2025 (Thursday)-Vancouver

Since 2005, the Chinese Support Group has entered its 20th year, with participants supporting each other and growing together, impacting lives through life. To mark the 20th anniversary, an in-person group meeting will take place on April 24th, 2025 (Thursday), offering everyone the opportunity to gather, reconnect, and continue their journey together.  Chinese-speaking cancer patients and their families residing in British Columbia are welcomed to join.

Please register online in advance. No walk-in registration is available for this in-person group.

Family Art Therapy Program

Head & Neck Support Groups

Information about head & neck cancer, ideas for coping, and time to connect and share experiences with others. 

Victoria Head & Neck Support Group

First Thursday of each month, 10:15-11:45am.  Open to all people with head & neck cancer in BC. To register, please call 250.519.5525

Vancouver Head & Neck  Support Group: 

For people with head & neck cancer who are being treated at BC Cancer - Vancouver.

Job Search Seminar 
Covers issues around looking for work such as resume gaps, disclosure of health history, asking for work accommodation and legal rights and responsibilities.

Living with Metastatic Cancer

A welcoming group for people who have metastatic or incurable cancer. The focus is on living well and sharing your experience with others who understand. You can ask questions and share information and tips with each other in a friendly and relaxed setting. The group is run by a BC Cancer Counsellor.

Lung Cancer Support Group

This virtual support group is for lung cancer patients throughout BC, to connect with one another and have a space to share experiences and information.

4th Monday of every month, 10:00 - 11:30am.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a weekly 8-session course designed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, University of Massachusetts Medical School. The goal of the course is to help people with serious illnesses or life challenges to lower their stress and suffering. It is about learning to be present while living with uncertainties.

Relaxation Group - Kelowna
This is an in-person group at BC Cancer - Kelowna. 

Learn ways to calm your mind and relax your body. Please wear something comfortable and without scents.

Sessions are Tuesdays 10:00 - 11:15am. Okanagan Room 2nd floor.

Relaxation & Music Therapy Group
Our guided imagery and music therapy experience can promote relaxation and nervous system regulation.  Groups are led by certified music therapist Carolyn Neapole. A BC Cancer counsellor also runs the session.  No experience needed and everyone is welcome.

Sessions are Mondays at 5:30 pm, Wednesdays at 10:30 am, and Fridays at 2:30 pm

Return to Work Seminar

For people returning to their former workplace after cancer treatment. This two part seminar will discuss ways to get ready for return to work, insurance issues, improving workplace well-being, employment rights and negotiating return to work.
