Pathology Office

The Pathology Office is the main area for monitoring the passage of referred in specimens that come from all hospitals in BC and around the world for testing at the Vancouver Centre

The Pathology Office is a rather unique section of the Vancouver Centre(VC) laboratory. This is because the majority of the tests performed are referred in from physicians across BC, Canada or sometimes the world. Each request results in either microscope slides or blocks arriving at VC as a consult, referral or special test. Since every hospital gives each slide/block a unique number the Pathology Office must renumber them so as not to invalidate the original number. This also allows tracking of the case through the VC laboratory and eventual return of the slides/blocks to the originating hospital.

There is only one requisition form used for the Pathology office and this is to request slide review. However, other request forms that return to the Pathology Office via the originating hospital lab that holds the tissue block. Note that these forms indicating to send to the hospital that holds the tissue should not be sent to the Pathology Office directly.

Please print and complete the relevant areas, note that if you require a review then the originating hospital will only send slides that the pathologist will review and report on.

Do not write in other tests, this only leads to confusion.
