Surrey is home to BC Cancer – Surrey, which currently provides cancer care services for the region. To meet growing demand, a new BC Cancer centre is being built in Cloverdale, with an anticipated opening in 2030.

Surrey Wall Fix.pngBC Cancer – Surrey is located next to Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH). We provide a full range of cancer care services in partnership with Fraser Health.

Fraser Health also operates community oncology network sites in Burnaby and Maple Ridge.

BC Cancer - Surrey is located on the traditional and unceded territories of the Katzie, Kwantlen, Kwikwetlem, Qayqayt, Semiahmoo and Tsawwassen First Nations.

 
BC Cancer - Surrey serves patients in the second-largest city in British Columbia.

 

We are BC Cancer's third treatment centre and have supported patients in the Fraser Valley since 1995.

 

We have an active research clinic on site.

 

We use advanced technologies, including stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT).

 

What we offer

When you work with BC Cancer – Surrey, you gain access to leading technology, research and specialized cancer care services.

 

We are the only centre in the Fraser Valley that handles malignant hematology referrals.

 

We provide dental services for patients receiving cancer treatment.

 

We offer specialized care for soft tissue sarcomas.

 

 

We use SBRT to treat:

  • Brain cancer
  • Early-stage lung cancer
  • Pancreatic cancer
  • Cancer that has spread to the lung, liver, adrenal gland or spine

Who we are

The new Surrey hospital and BC Cancer Centre is situated on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie), q̓ʷɑ:n̓ƛ̓ən̓ (Kwantlen), and Semiahma (Semiahmoo) land-based nations. 

BC Cancer and the Provincial Health Services Authority, in partnership with Fraser Health, are building a new BC Cancer centre in Surrey to expand access to cancer services in one of British Columbia’s fastest-growing communities.  

The cancer centre will be integrated with the new Surrey hospital and will complement services at BC Cancer – Surrey, supporting the growing demand for cancer care in the region. Construction is underway, and the new hospital and cancer centre are targeted to open in 2030. ​

New centre specifics 

The new Surrey hospital and BC Cancer Centre is a greenfield development, meaning it is being built entirely on previously undeveloped land. The hospital and cancer centre will be truly integrated, enabling seamless, coordinated care in one place for patients and families. 

Once complete, the new site is expected to support the needs of the growing community with 105,000 ambulatory oncology care visits, 50,000 radiation therapy visits and 22,000 chemotherapy visits each year. 

It will include: 
  • Research and clinical trials space to support innovation 
  • Radiation vaults for radiation therapy 
  • Brachytherapy operative suite  
  • Underground parking 
  • Chemotherapy treatment spaces 
  • Outpatient ambulatory clinics 
  • Supportive care services  
  • Clinical and operational support services 
  • PET/CT and a cyclotron 
  • Outdoor gardens 
  • Spiritual space 
The planning and design of the new hospital and cancer centre is being shaped through meaningful collaboration with the Katzie, Kwantlen, and Semiahmoo Nations, as well as patients and families. This engagement helps ensure the facility is being built to provide high-quality, culturally safe and patient-centred care.

Looking ahead, the new Surrey Hospital and BC Cancer Centre will be located in Cloverdale and will expand access to cancer care as part of an integrated hospital and cancer centre, complementing services at BC Cancer – Surrey.
