Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in joining our volunteer team at BC Cancer – Kelowna.

BC Cancer – Kelowna is welcoming new volunteers at our centre.

Information
Volunteers are a part of the multi-disciplinary cancer care team and play an important role in providing high-quality care and support. They enhance the experience of patients, family and friends during the cancer journey.

Whether you have been affected by cancer, have a healthcare career goal, or just want to be involved in your community,  we welcome your application

Requirements

There are no educational prerequisites but compassionate, empathetic, non-judgmental individuals match our patients’ needs. Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be 18+ years of age
  • Must be able to provide proof they are fully vaccinated for COVID-19
  • Volunteers need to commit to one 3 hour shift a week for a permanent shift, or a minimum of two 3 hour shifts per month as a "floater" and be able to volunteer for a minimum of 6 months
  • All shifts take place on a weekday, between Monday to Friday,  in the hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm, so must have availability during that time.
  • If you are a current or former patient, we ask you to be 1 year post active treatment before you consider applying to volunteer.  If you have lost a family member, we also ask you to wait one year before you consider applying to volunteer.
Volunteers are pre-screened from their application, and if there is a role that matches the skills, interests and availability of the applicant, they are interviewed to further determine their suitability as a volunteer.

For applicants that progress, the next step involves reference checks and completing a criminal record check.  Successful applicants must complete a New Volunteer Orientation as well as some online training courses.
