​The BC Cancer Excellence Awards provide an opportunity to shine a light on the inspiring people and teams who help ensure that British Columbians receive world-class, patient-centered cancer screening, treatment and support, and benefit from new discoveries that are helping change the face of cancer​​.

Heena Vadgama is a project manager for Education. She is the winner of this year's BC Cancer Excellence Award in the category of Unsung Hero, patient admin support.

An Unsung Hero is someone who is always ready to help out, and who demonstrates an ongoing pattern of going above and beyond the scope of their job. This person makes a positive impact on those around them and the organization.

Heena is well known to many at BC Cancer as a force of dedication and positivity, going above and beyond in every role she takes on. Her colleagues describe her as someone who truly embodies the spirit of teamwork, saying:

Her colleagues particularly value her mentorship of new team members, sharing her expertise with warmth and patience. Even during the challenges of the pandemic, Heena took the initiative to create virtual social connections, organizing online activities that helped maintain team spirit and mental well-being.

For over a decade, Heena has been the driving force behind the BC Cancer Summit, ensuring its success year after year. Her attention to detail and innovative ideas are instrumental in creating an exceptional experience for all attendees. Whether it's staying late to finalize arrangements or volunteering to ensure the venue is ready, Heena approaches every task with a calm demeanor and a smile, fostering a supportive environment for her colleagues.
