​The BC Cancer Excellence Awards provide an opportunity to shine a light on the inspiring people and teams who help ensure that British Columbians receive world-class, patient-centred cancer screening, treatment and support, and benefit from new discoveries that are helping change the face of cancer.

Dr. Susan Ellard is a medical oncologist at BC Cancer – Kelowna. She is the winner of this year's BC Cancer Excellence Award in the category of Workplace Inspiration.

The Workplace Inspiration Award recognizes a person with an unyielding ability to inspire those around them. This is a person colleagues look to for encouragement and motivation.

Dr. Susan Ellard is described by her colleagues as inspirational. Known for her selflessness and compassion, Dr. Ellard is a leader who sets an example for all those who work with her.

Staff commend Dr. Ellard's efforts to improve her department's situation during difficult times, saying that she focuses on solutions that ensure everyone she works with feels supported. Her empathy and attentive listening have earned her the trust and respect of her colleagues and peers.

In addition to her work, Dr. Ellard is a positive influence through her active engagement in community environmental initiatives, highlighting her dedication to promoting a healthier world.

With this award, the team at BC Cancer – Kelowna hope to emphasize how privileged they are to work alongside Dr. Ellard. One teammate shared, "she is the epitome of perseverance, authenticity and workplace inspiration, and her efforts over the years will positively impact the interdisciplinary team and every patient that walks through our doors for years to come."
