Indigenous Patient Navigator

An Indigenous patient navigator (IPN) works with the cancer care team to deliver supportive, trauma-informed and culturally safe care to Indigenous patients and their families. Patients who identify as Indigenous, First nations, Metis, Inuit, Status and Non-Status, can access IPN services.

Interpreter services

An interpreter may be booked for appointments. To request an interpreter, mention it to the clerk when they contact you to set up your first appointment.

Library

The library offers a collection of resources to help patients and families cope with cancer. The library is located on Fraser 1 (beside the main entrance) and is open Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4 pm (excluding statutory holidays). Pharmacy

The pharmacy is located on the 3rd floor of the Sumas Wing of the Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre and is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (excluding statutory holidays). To contact the pharmacy, call 604-851-4709 or toll-free (within BC) 1-877-547-3777 ext. 644709.

Sacred Space

BC Cancer - Abbotsford has created a sacred space (PDF) that is designed to include cultures and beliefs. The sacred space is open and accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is open to persons of all faiths, spiritualities and cultural traditions.

Restaurant

The Artichokes restaurant is located on Level 1 and is open from 6:30 am to 7:00 pm, seven days a week. Cash, debit and credit are all accepted. Vending machines with snacks and drinks are also located outside the cafeteria and can take bills.

Various specialized cancer treatment-related services are available at BC Cancer – Abbotsford:


Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is the treatment that involves use of chemical agents (drugs) to stop cancer cells from growing. Chemotherapy can eliminate cancer cells at sites great distances from the original cancer. As a result, chemotherapy is considered a systemic treatment.

Dental services

Dental services are available by referral from your cancer specialist or dentist. Our dentist will take needed x-rays, and see if there are any concerns to be addressed prior to radiation or chemotherapy. They will also advise you in mouth care during and following your treatment. Please note, dental services are not to provide routine or needed dental care unrelated to direct care for cancer treatment.

Psychiatry
Psychiatry is a key component of care, providing clinical psychiatric services for cancer patients. Psychiatrists at BC Cancer have a special interest and expertise in working with cancer patients and their illness experience, assisting them with psychological issues, symptom management, treatment crisis and rehabilitation issues.
