BC Cancer is hiring Nuclear Medicine/Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Technologists for positions across British Columbia! Build your career in oncology from one of our three regional cancer centres offering our PET Molecular Imaging Therapy program: Kelowna, Victoria or Vancouver.

Join our team

PET Technologists are key members of our interdisciplinary teams who provide cancer care and treatment to patients across the province. Working with BC Cancer, you will collaborate with a wide range of health care professionals such as physicians, medical physicists, nurses, radiation therapists, and administrative team members. Duties range from clinical and research imaging to delivering cutting edge therapies for cancer patients.

PET Technologists contribute directly to patient care by using the latest technology to improve the early diagnosis and management of cancer. The Molecular Imaging Therapy program is:

  • Building on research for discovery, development and application of new radiotracers
  • Collaborating with a growing network of molecular imaging programs across Canada and world-wide

PET Technologists provide direct patient care, working as valued members of the interdisciplinary team (offered at the Vancouver, Victoria, and Kelowna regional cancer centres). 

Recent Ministry approval of BC Cancer’s 10 year Cancer Action Plan includes the provincial expansion of both PET/CT imaging and radiopharmaceutical production capacity and the continued development of a Theranostics program. Planning and construction of these components is currently underway.

Relocation assistance is available to those who qualify, to support your move to British Columbia, Canada.

At three of our six BC Cancer’s regional cancer centres, PET Technologists provide cancer care and treatments for patients, as valued members of the interdisciplinary team.

  • 1 GE 5-ring MI PET/CT scanner
  • 1 Integro auto-injector

  • 1 GE 5-ring MI PET/CT scanner
  • 2 Integro auto-injectors
  • Fully licensed PET cyclotron/radiopharmaceutical laboratory with 3 separate cleanrooms
  • Separate micro-PET research facility
  • Clinical FDG scanning, multiple research radiotracer clinical trials
  • Functional Imaging Program recognized as Canada's first Comprehensive Therapy Centre for Excellence (Society of Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging)

BC Cancer is hiring a Cyclotron Operator at the Cyclotron Facility in Vancouver to support production of both clinical and research radiopharmaceuticals for the publicly-funded, Provincial Molecular Imaging Therapy Department. Our Molecular Imaging Therapy Department in Vancouver was recognized as Canada’s first Comprehensive Therapy Centre of Excellence (Society of Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging).

Join our team

Cyclotron Operators are key members of our interdisciplinary teams who provide cancer care and treatment to patients across the province; this position participates in:

  • Operating and maintaining the TR19 PET cyclotron 
  • Trouble-shooting, diagnostic checks, and identifying and resolving basic operating problems
  • Supporting the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)-compliant PET radiopharmaceutical production/distribution facility for both research and clinical applications

Frequently asked questions

A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a degree in electronics or a related science/technology field is required. A minimum of 2 years recent, related experience in operating cyclotrons in a cyclotron facility or industrial setting.

Demonstrated ability to operate cyclotron systems while showcasing effective problem-solving and time management skills. Demonstrated ability to execute practical maintenance tasks.

The BC Cancer Production Cyclotron produces C-11, Ga-68, F-18, Tc99m, and Zr-89 isotopes.

Our Molecular Imaging Therapy Department in Vancouver was recognized as Canada’s first Comprehensive Therapy Centre of Excellence (Society of Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging).

Radiochemists are key members of our interdisciplinary teams who provide cancer care and treatment for patients across the province; this position participates in:

  • Preparing/testing Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) – compliant radiopharmaceuticals
  • Coordination with cyclotron operators for the production of radioisotopes 
  • Aseptic operations in clean room setting; instruments/equipment maintenance
  • Documenting all results following approved procedures and protocols

Frequently asked questions

A combination of education, training, and experience, equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Pharmaceutical Sciences. A minimum of 2 years recent related experience in a pharmaceutical or GMP laboratory. Current certification for the Transportation of Dangerous Good (Class 7 Radioactive Materials). Work experience in a PET radiopharmaceutical laboratory is considered an asset.
 

Demonstrated ability to safely handle radioactive materials while showcasing excellent synthetic chemistry or radiochemistry skills. Working knowledge of analytical chemistry techniques (QC). Demonstrated technical writing ability and strong attention to details as you handle GMP manufacturing environments.
