The BC Cancer Excellence Awards provide an opportunity to shine a light on our inspiring people and teams who work every day to ensure that British Columbians receive world-class, patient-centred cancer screening, treatment and support, and benefit from new discoveries that are helping change the face of cancer.
Dr. Caroline Lohrisch is a medical oncologist and department head of medical oncology at BC Cancer – Vancouver. She is the winner of this year's BC Cancer Excellence Award in the category of Unsung Hero.
An Unsung Hero is someone who is always ready to help out,
and who demonstrates an ongoing pattern of going above and beyond the scope of
their job. This person makes a positive impact on those around them and the
organization.
Dr. Lohrisch has been with BC Cancer for over 20 years and in the role as Vancouver centre department head of medical oncology for the past 5 years. Throughout these years, she has demonstrated enormous dedication and passion in advancing patient care. She always goes above and beyond to ensure that her patients receive the best care and that her colleagues are well supported to excel in their work.
In addition to her roles as a medical oncologist and department head, Dr. Lohrisch conducts clinical research that is creative and focused on improving the lives of patients.
Dr. Lohrisch is the recipient of this year's BC Cancer Excellence Award in the category of Unsung Hero.
Dr. Lohrisch is described as compassionate and empathetic leader who leads with integrity.
Her colleagues shared, "Dr. Lohrisch's door is always open to everyone. She listens, cares, and creates a positive and respectful environment. She truly strives to achieve what is best for patients and our department."
