Eleanor Lee, chief project officer and executive director of the BC Cancer Redevelopment team, was recently recognized in the Top 50 Women Leaders of Vancouver List by Women We Admire. This year's awardees are well-respected authentic leaders who, possessing self-awareness, garner credibility, empower others and present themselves as a constant and consistent role model to others within their industries.
Eleanor is admired for her inspiring leadership in delivering the four major redevelopment projects underway in Burnaby, Surrey, Kamloops and Nanaimo to bring cancer care closer to home for patients and families. She is an architect by profession and has an extensive history working on health-care redevelopment projects, including the New St. Paul's Hospital and Teck Acute Care Centre at BC Children's and BC Women's Hospital.
We had a chance to catch up with Eleanor on her award:
Surprised was my first thought, followed by feeling honoured and grateful to be in the company of such high calibre people.
The opportunity to help shape the environment for patients and families of today and for generations is such an incredible privilege. Being part of a solution that serves the community is what motivates me.
It was the opening day of the Teck Acute Care Centre. After years of design, construction, moving, and training staff, it was finally the day. It was the day that a mom and young child walked into the lobby of the new hospital with smiles all around. The child said to me, “this place is cool!" We had a good laugh and a high five. I walked away knowing my job was done.
Something that really resonates with me is continuous learning. We are in an age where things change quickly with technology, the environment, and people. With every situation, we have the opportunity to do better, and be better.
Outside of work, Eleanor enjoys spending time with her dog Jasper.
