Background & Purpose
As part of B.C.'s 10-Year Cancer Action Plan (Action 1.32), BC Cancer is focusing on developing Rapid Assessment and Diagnosis (RAD) hubs. These hubs, which may be virtual or physical, aim to speed up cancer diagnosis, consultation, and treatment planning. By coordinating services across the pre-diagnosis cancer care journey to treatment referral, RAD hubs help ensure timely and seamless care for patients.
While B.C. already has RAD hubs for specific tumour types (e.g., breast, lung, head/neck), there is currently no standardized provincial guidance or clear definition of what RAD hubs should include or the services they provide.
To address this, a dedicated BC Cancer project team is creating a phased approach to optimize existing hubs and improve performance across the pre-diagnosis pathway. The ultimate goal is an integrated, province-wide system for cancer assessment and diagnostic services.
As a patient or family partner, you will meet with the co-leads of the Breast RAD Hub working group to provide your insights on the following:
- The breast cancer RAD hub guidance document.
- Patient-centered indicators to measure and improve patient experience, along with methods to collect this information.
You may also be invited to join follow-up meetings to discuss specific topics or contribute to the project's deliverables.
